The Perryville Board of Aldermen covered a variety of topics during its regularly scheduled meeting on August 16.
The first of which was a public hearing for the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant application pertaining to Phase 2 of the Lucas and Friends Backyard Adventure Playground.
Phase 2 will include swings and other features.
“The committee is here in support of the grant,” Fritsche said. “Everyone here knows how important the playground is to the city that it is developed. We want to get Phase 2 done and hopefully we can accomplish that.”
Fritsche also spoke on a photo shoot from Little Tikes that would highlight the playground for their upcoming catalog. The photos will be taken the afternoon of Oct. 25.
“It’s a national campaign so this will be seen by every Parks and Recreation department in the country,” Perryville Director Jim Cadwell said.

The board also recognized seven city employees for continued service with the city: 5 years- Kaelin Casasola, Tina Vernon; 15 years- Brian Bohnert, Kim Picou, Jesse Whistler; 20 years Jason Mattingly; 35 years-Mark Weibrecht.
The board approved a change to the Northeast Outfall Sewer Replacement. In the course of construction, crews found an exposed 15” clay pipe being used as a city main to carry sewer across the Dry Run Branch. This was unknown at the time plans and specifications were first put together but must be addressed. The City’s Engineer estimates we could save over $30,000 by doing it now as opposed to making it part of Phase 3 of the sewer trunk line. As such, staff contacted Mayor Riney and obtained his support to order materials and continue with this change order.
The board also approved a project that extends a 10 foot wide sidewalk along Perryville Boulevard connecting the Bank of Missouri Soccer Park to Old St. Mary’s Road. It is being done as a cost share with MoDOT.
The Board Also approved the Farm-to-Table event scheduled for Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
In his Administrator Report, Brent Buerck discussed the plan to replace the streetlights in downtown Perryville, a process that has already started. Buerck also noted that MoDOT has trimmed the contractors down to four for the Chester Bridge Project, although the city will not have any involvement.
The next meeting will be Aug. 30.
