William Charles Stone Sr., 94, of Cape Girardeau, died Monday, June 16, 2025, at Chateau Girardeau.
He was born August 16, 1930, in Cape Girardeau County to Charles E. and Ruby A Scheper Stone.
William and Wilma Frieda Petzoldt Stone were married on May 19, 1951, at Pocahontas, Arkansas.
He had many careers throughout his lifetime, including construction work, law enforcement, firefighting, and building his own home. When William worked, he worked hard. When he was done working, he rested hard. The job William loved most was the one he retired from — teaching high school welding at Perryville vo-tech. He loved to laugh and joke around, or “poke fun,” and William enjoyed telling the many stories of the amazing events in his life. Most of all, he loved to hear God’s word shared — the most amazing story.
Survivors include William’s wife, Wilma Stone; two sons, William “Bill” (Shelly) Stone Jr. and Michael G. (Pam) Stone; two daughters, Judy (Michael) Harrison and Diana Fox; sonin- law, Gary Laurentius; grandchildren Andy (Christy) Harrison, Tara Simmons, Michael (Jamie) Harrison, Heather Monroe, Courtney Monroe, Kiley Stone, Kelsey Stone, Christine (John) Dillingham, Trey (Alyssa) Stone, Garret (Melanie) Stone, Blake (Kayla) Stone, Josh (Melissa) Stone, Gary Laurentius (Leslie Mayfield), Joey (Emily) Laurentius, and Ashley (Dylan) Kaminskey; twenty-three great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Drusilla Leigh Laurentius, and four sisters: Margie Foister, Ruth Bragg, Wilma Cupler, and Carmie Raglin.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the funeral home, with William’s son, Michael Stone, officiating.
Burial will take place at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
