Virginia Anna Mae (formerly Baer) Moonier, 96, of Godfrey, Illinois, formerly of Perryville, passed away at 10:37 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, at San Gabriel Memory Care in Godfrey, Ill.

She was born July 8, 1929, in Perryville, to Herman and Anna (Berkbigler) Baer.

Virginia married Alvin Joseph Moonier on April 22, 1950, in Perryville. He preceded her in death Jan. 20, 2015.

Virginia had several careers working with the public, but found her passion in fine jewelry as a department manager for the May Company, a subsidiary of JCPenney. After many years in Perryville, the family relocated in 1966 to Crystal City for her husband’s employment. In 2000, they moved to Godfrey.

She and Alvin attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

They enjoyed their property at Lake of the Ozarks for many years before becoming Florida snowbirds for 17 years. While in Florida, they formed a band with fellow musicians known as “The Country Singers.” Both sang, with Alvin playing guitar and Virginia playing keyboard. The group performed at various functions throughout their community and formed many lasting friendships.

Virginia was a skilled craftswoman who enjoyed basket weaving, Swedish weaving and quilting, often making items for friends and family. She also loved gardening, flower arranging, puzzles and playing card and board games.

Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a kind, generous and loving person.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Anne (Jeff) Campbell of Godfrey; two sons, Randall Joseph “RJ” (Esther) Moonier of St. Charles and Kenneth Lee “Ken” (Janell) Moonier of Crystal City; two sisters-in-law, Mary Cottner and Joann “Joan” Moonier; four grandchildren, Brooke Moonier, Derrick (Christina) Moonier, Brandon (Erica) Moonier and Jeris (Brandy) Moonier; and eight great-grandchildren, Jersey, Brynn, Eliza, Jakob, Jionni, Jaxon, Tate and Ellie Jo.
