Perryville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, in Hallsville at the age of 85.
Roswitha Siglinde Anita Wagner was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Düsseldorf, Germany, to Walter and Erna Wagner (Dudzuweit).
After spending time in the United Kingdom, she crossed the Atlantic to the United States as an au pair, eager for adventure and drawn by the possibilities of a new country. She first lived in Miami before moving to St. Louis, where pen pals and an opportunity for secretarial work awaited her.
It was during a weekend trip to Perryville with friends from St. Louis that she met her future husband, Jerry Lee Caudle of Ellis Grove. The couple was married on May 11, 1963, and were blessed with two children, Sonya and Derrick. They lived in Brentwood, Florissant and Washington before settling in Perryville.
For many years, Roswitha worked as a pharmacy assistant at the former Perryville Prescription Center, owned by the late Ron and Gisela Horr. She was also an active member of the German Club in Jackson. Her later years were spent in Hallsville. Roswitha was an inquisitive, sensitive and curious soul who valued order while possessing a strong artistic sensibility and a sly sense of humor.
She had a passion for travel, British comedy, reading, current affairs and fine food, paired with a keen intellect and deep compassion. She demonstrated the importance of respecting others, valuing education, giving one’s best effort and striving to do what was morally right — even when it meant standing apart from popular opinion. She instilled a love of history and a strong sense of place in those around her. She also enjoyed listening to Rod Stewart, savoring a glass of homemade cherry wine, and appreciating a cup of Monastrell wine from Jumilla, Spain.
She will be deeply missed. Though we say farewell for now, we trust we will meet again at another time and place. The memories of a lifetime shared together are etched upon mind, heart and soul. Though the flame has been extinguished on this side, it burns clear and brighter on the other.
May she find rest, peace and tranquility on this new journey, as her life is remembered and honored with enduring love and gratitude. A glass of wine shall be raised in remembrance, and a light shall forever remain in our hearts.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service & Crematory, Columbia.
