Thomas Wayne “Tom” Bowles, 74, of Perryville, formerly of Chester, passed away at 5:52 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, surrounded by his entire family at his home.
He was born to the late Warren G. and Anna (nee McCreary) Bowles Sr. on January 17, 1951, in Shawneetown, Ill. Tom married Christine Heires on September 17, 1977, in Chester, and she survives.
He was a correctional lieutenant at Menard Correctional Center for 32 years. Tom was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Perryville. He enjoyed building furniture, woodworking and watching sports.
Tom is survived by his wife, Christine, of Perryville; three daughters, Amy (Scott) Wunderlich, April (Jordan) Gremmels and Adrienne Baker, all of Chester; two siblings, Warren Bowles Jr. of Chester and Nancy Bowles of Perryville; seven grandchildren, Brenna Astin, Bralynn Astin, Aubry Bowles, Adaya Wunderlich, Amara Wunderlich, Justice Baker and Uriah Gremmels; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis Bowles. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025. It continued from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester. The Rev. Dr. Mike Friesz officiated.
Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chester.
