SV students earn top finishes at regional math contest

St. Vincent Junior High students earned top honors while competing in the MATHCOUNTS Regional Contest held Feb. 6 in Cape Girardeau.

Schools competing in the regional contest included Cape Public Schools, Sikeston, St. Mary’s, St. Vincent–Cape and St. Vincent–Perryville.

In the individual competition, Trever Welker placed seventh, and Aubrey Mattingly placed ninth. Both students qualified to compete in the MATHCOUNTS Individual Contest held March 7 at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

The St. Vincent–Perryville team, consisting of Griffin Hotop, Aubrey Mattingly, Henry Taylor and Trever Welker, placed second overall in the team competition. The team also qualified to compete in the MATHCOUNTS Team Competition at the University of Missouri on March 7.

Other St. Vincent students placing individually included Reese Leible, 12th; Henry Taylor, 14th; Gus Zoellner, 16th; Griffin Hotop, 18th; and Austin Fulford, 20th.
