The Perryville Fire Department responded to a 12:34 p.m. call Thursday, March 19, reporting a small fire at a two-unit apartment on South Main Street.
According to Fire Chief Jeremy Triller, he arrived on the scene just before a pumper truck.
“There was a small — about 20 feet by 4 feet — fire along the side of the house,” Triller said. “At first we thought it was caused by an electrical issue, but we later determined it started when a barbecue grill on the upper deck tipped over, burned through the floor, and the fire fell to the ground.”
Triller said the fire damaged a portion of the home’s siding and caused some electrical damage. All damage was confined to the exterior of the building.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes after a Citizens Electric crew arrived to disconnect power.
