Sgt. Joseph “Joey” Goldsmith was named the Perryville Police Department’s 2026 Officer of the Year during the March 3 board of aldermen meeting held at city hall.

The award is selected through nominations submitted by fellow officers. Goldsmith has served with the department since 2021.

Nominating officers cited his leadership, integrity and dedication to both the force and the community.

“I believe Sgt. Goldsmith shows true valor and wisdom for what an officer should strive to be,” one officer wrote.

Another credited Goldsmith for demonstrating “clear, consistent and fair leadership within the Perryville Police Department. His adherence to policy and procedures, as well as his unbiased and objective enforcement of procedures and policies are continuing with the finest example of leadership within our department.”

A third officer wrote that Goldsmith “consistently goes above and beyond in his role, not only as a supervisor but as a leader who truly serves both his officers and the community.”
