Stella Mae Elder, 98 years old, of Ste. Genevieve, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus.
She was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Ste. Genevieve.
Mae was a long-time member of the Hill and Dale Garden Club, Church of Ste. Genevieve, American Legion Auxiliary, and was the librarian for many years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and bird watching and was a wonderful hostess, cook and baker. Mae enjoyed playing bridge, other card games, and bingo.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Woods of Stratford, Conn. and Julia Elder of Dexter; five sons, Thomas (Jan) Elder Jr. of Chino, Calif., Joel (Carol) Elder of Matthews, N.C., Mark Elder of Chicago, Ill., David (Tempie) Elder of Blairsville, Ga., and Steve (Melanie) Elder of Ste. Genevieve; grandchildren Chris (Kelly) Elder, Nick (Amber) Elder, Candice (Alex) Alvarez, Samantha O'Dell (Danielle), Joshua (Heather) Robinson, Thomas Elder, and William Elder; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mae was proceeded in death by her husband, Col. Thomas G. "Tiny" Elder USMC; father, Edgar Moore; mother, Stella (Boyer) Moore; two sisters, Nelda Oberle and Marjorie Bequette; sons-in-law, Stephen E. Woods and William Webb; and grandson, Bruce "BG" Ando II.
Visitation was held from 9 to 11:15 a.m. at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.
The clergy was Rev. Charles Prost.
Burial was at Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve.
