The Saxony Lutheran girls soccer team kicked off the season in grand fashion as the Crusaders won its first two games of the season very convincingly.
Saxony defeated Farmington 7-0 on March 15 and then came back and beat Carterville, Ill. 6-1 to start the season 2-0.
Saxony Lutheran girls soccer has plenty to look forward to this season.
Fresh off the program’s third place at state in Class 1 last season, the Crusaders return a bunch of talent.
Saxony returns four all-state players from one year ago, including junior Camille Richey. Richey did so after leading Saxony in scoring once again as she recorded a team-high 31 points with a team-high 12 goals as she also produced seven assists. Along with being named all-state, Camille was tabbed as the Class 1 Region 1 Player of the Year.
Maci Hollis also returns after being named the Class 1 Region 1 Defender of the Year. Hollis helped Saxony’s defense produce eight shutouts.
The lone Crusader named second team all-state was now senior midfielder Annie Adams, who also earned individual region honors as the Class 1 Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year. Adams finished second in scoring behind Richey with 29 points as she recorded nine goals and a team-high 11 assists.
Saxony has a wealth of experience and returns seven total seniors.
Saxony went 13-9 last season and won 8 of their last 10 games of the season and finished third in Class 1.
