Richard “Rick” Brickhaus, 84, passed away on April 26, 2025, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born on February 2, 1941, in Perryville, to Herman A. and Iona V. (Hoffman) Brickhaus, Rick lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Rick proudly served in the United States Army for over 10 years. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years through his involvement with Am Vets Post #94 and VFW Post #4282. These affiliations reflected his enduring camaraderie with fellow veterans and his continued support of those who served.

Professionally, Rick worked as an automotive and heavy equipment mechanic. His skill and work ethic earned him respect among colleagues and clients alike. Whether under the hood of a car, rebuilding a classic, or fine-tuning a piece of machinery, Rick brought precision and pride to every task.

From 1997 until 2022, Rick made his home in Kempner, Texas, with his wife of 47 years, Ellen. During these years and throughout his life, he found joy in watching NASCAR races and restoring antique tractors and cars — interests that combined his mechanical talents with a love for speed and craftsmanship. He also had a well-known fondness for Gary’s BBQ ribs, a favorite treat that brought him comfort and delight.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Iona; his beloved wife, Ellen; two brothers, Merlin and Wayne; and a sister, Doris. He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Larry Brickhaus; a sister, Sue (Dallas) Clifton; and his children: sons Randy, Douglas (Lanna), Markus, and daughter Christiane (Matthew), along with six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and multiple foster children.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Ford & Young Funeral Home, located at 110 S. West Street in Perryville, with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #4282, and Rev. Christopher Seah will officiate.

Later that day, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at VFW Post #4282 Hall, located at 610 Thomas Street in Perryville. May the memory of Richard “Rick” Brickhaus bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
