An elderly Perryville man was killed at 1:05 p.m. Thursday in a tractor accident that took place on Perry County Road 343 near Perry County Road 328.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Oliver G. Bachmann, 90, of Perryville, started a 1981 John Deer 2640 while standing beside it. Because it was in gear, and the neutral safety switch was not working properly, the tractor rolled over Bachmann, killing him. The tractor continued traveling east until its right side struck a parked and unattended 2008 Dodge Ram pickup.

Bachman was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:36 p.m. by Perry County Coroner William Bohnert, who transported the body to Ford and Young Funeral Home in Perryville.

The tractor was not damaged, and the pickup received minor damage. Both vehicles remained on the scene.

The MSHP also responded to a one-vehicle accident at 8:58 a.m. Monday involving a Perryville resident who was an occupant in an SUV that rolled over while traveling northbound on U.S. 67, north of Karsch Blvd. in St. Francois County.

According to the patrol, the crash occurred when a northbound 2007 Chrysler Aspen driven by Ryan S. Nash, 36, of Bonne Terre, began to skid off the right side of the roadway. Once off the road, the SUV overturned and finally stopped on its top, facing east.

The driver and his occupant, Kyle R. Hahs, 34, of Perryville, were transported by St. Francois County Ambulance to Parkland Health Center-Farmington, where both were treated for moderate injuries. Neither man was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.

The car was totaled and removed from the scene by Marler’s Towing.
