 Leon B. Schumer, 97, of Perryville, died peacefully Thursday, August 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 10, 1928, in Schumer Springs, to Frank and Mary (Leible) Schumer.

He and Marveline A. (Schloss) Schumer were married on March 31, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2013.

Leon then married Ethel M. (Hudson) Renaud on September 5, 2015.

Leon served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, where he served as an usher. Leon was also a member of the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post #133, and the Knights of Columbus #1263. Leon grew up on the farm, enjoyed all of nature, and was a country boy at heart. He was co-founder of Schumer Bros. Plumbing and Heating. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his second wife, Ethel (Renaud) Schumer of Perryville; four daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Guyot of Perryville, Gail (Eric) Hankins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kim (the late Terry) Finger of Perryville, and Jan (Bob) Grogg of St. Mary; two sons, Rocky (Laura) Schumer of Perryville and Kip (Alisa) Schumer of Perryville; three sisters, Dorothy Barry of Perryville, Rose Hotop of Perryville, and Anna Schnurbusch of Perryville; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six step-children, Bill (Carol) Renaud, Don (Kathy) Renaud, Butch (Lynn) Renaud, Nancy (Vince) LoRusso, Janet (Jeff) Miller, and Joan (Steve) Smith; and two daughters-in-law, Margaret Renaud and Sheree Cowles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marveline A. Schumer; sister, Leola (Nester) Lappe; brother, Norbert Schumer; six half-sisters, Isabella Renaud, Dena Biehle, Ida Biehle, Clara Grus, Loretta Schumer and Bertha Lappe; four half-brothers, Henry Schumer, Edward Schumer, Edgar Sauer and Robert Sauer; and three step-children, Bobby Renaud, Tom Renaud and John Renaud.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville.

Visitation will continue from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Joe Geders officiating.
