Mark your calendar for the Laid Back on I-55 Truck Show, rolling into town Friday, Aug. 15 through Saturday, Aug. 16.
This annual celebration transforms downtown Perryville into a showcase of some of the tristate region’s fanciest and best-lit big rigs, drawing truckers, families, and visitors from all over.
The show began eight years ago with just under 50 trucks and has grown to feature well over 100 rigs, each polished and shined by drivers who pour their pride and hard work into their machines. The truckers put a lot of work, money and pride into their trucks. Watching them roll into downtown is a sight to behold, and the energy is contagious.
Friday kicks off with truck registration at 108 Progress Drive starting at 3 p.m., followed by the ever-popular Big Rig Light Show at dusk. As the sun sets, Main Street comes alive with the glow of custom lights, chrome, and the sound of engines. Live music fills the air, and food trucks line the square, making it a perfect evening for all ages.
Saturday keeps the excitement rolling with the Trucker Rodeo at 10 a.m. on the Alley Cat parking lot at 304 W South St., a kiddie tractor pull at 1 p.m., and a live auction in the afternoon.
The highlight for many is the convoy, which this year departs from Region’s Bank on Main Street at 5 p.m., winds past the Missouri National Veterans Memorial Wall, and returns to the courthouse square. The day wraps up with more live music and a community celebration that stretches into the night.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis in honor of Abigail Hotop, showing that this gathering is about more than just trucks — it’s about community. Whether you’re a truck enthusiast or just looking for a good time, the Laid Back on I-55 Truck Show is an event you won’t want to miss.
