Judith Ann Wengert, 87, of Brewer, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Independence Care Center in Perryville.
She was born March 24, 1938, in St. Louis, to Sylvester and Sylvia (Toon) Mattingly.
Judy and James Wengert were married February 23, 1957, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Brewer. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage.
Judy was a homemaker, a retired organist, and choir director for Christ the Savior Church and other surrounding parishes for 55 years. She also worked at the Hilltop Drive-In for 14 years. Judy enjoyed gardening, canning, woodworking, fishing, and bowling. Most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was a member of Christ the Savior Catholic Church, as well as the American Legion Post #133 Auxiliary, VFW #94 Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Blessed Sacrament Sodality, and the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her husband; seven children: David Wengert of Brewer, Kathleen Dias of Overland Park, Kan., Steven Wengert of Brewer, Mark (Julie) Wengert of Brewer, Tim (Shelly) Wengert of Ozora, Jay (Rachel) Wengert of Brewer, and Julie (Randy) Cissell of Brewer; a sister, Mary Bock of Brewer; fourteen grandchildren: Aaron (Christina) Rellergert, Danny (Annie) Rellergert, Curt (Becca) Pecaut, Dawn (Chad) Ozark, Lisa Marie (Daniel) Joyce, Kristin (Corey) Sauer, Amanda (Mark) Merigold, Tyler (Kayla Rugen) Wengert, Jessica (Fiancé Garrett Parmer) Wengert, Linzie (Kyle) Welker, Macy (Tyler Callier) Wengert, Taylor (Kyle) Fahnestock, Zachary Cissell, and Jake Cissell; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant twin brothers, Joseph and John Mattingly, her daughter-in-law, Jackie Wengert, two sisters-in-law, Novona “Sis” Mattingly and Adele Wengert, and four brothers-in-law, Leroy Wilson, Ed Wengert Jr., Elmer Renaud, and Cullen Mattingly.
Visitation took place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville, and will continue from 7 to 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Christ the Savior Catholic Church in Brewer, with Rev. Jay Jung officiating.
Burial will be at Christ the Savior Catholic Cemetery in Brewer.
Memorial contributions may be given to Christ the Savior Church, Journey Hospice, Jackie C. Wengert Memorial Foundation or American Cancer Society.
