James (Jim) Robert Buchheit Sr., 92, of Hermann and a lifelong resident of New Haven, passed away peacefully December 27, 2025, at StoneBridge Senior Living in Hermann.
Jim was born October 7, 1933, in Perryville, the eldest son of Frank and Anna “Mae” Buchheit (nee Pecaut).
He was the husband of the late Edna J. Buchheit. They were married March 18, 1978. Edna preceded him in death November 5, 2021.

Jim was also blessed with 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents, Frank and Anna “Mae” Buchheit; sisters Virginia Boxdorfer and Jeannie Rodgers; brother Paul Buchheit; brother-in-law Roy Boxdorfer; son-in-law Joe Obermark III; stepdaughter Joanne Tall; and his first wife, Nadene Branson, with whom he had four children.
Jim held many jobs throughout his lifetime. He was in business with his uncle, Herbert Pecaut, hauling rock and moving dirt, and also worked for the Ste. Genevieve Lime Mill. In 1953, he joined his father, Frank, at MFA in New Haven, a job change that involved moving his family from Perryville to New Haven. In September 1957, he joined Scheer Transfer Co. and remained there until the day Milford and Marvin locked the doors. Jim’s route included factories and stores in Hermann, where he made many friends and even more stories — stories he enjoyed revisiting during his stay at StoneBridge.
Jim loved a good game of horseshoes and had pits in the backyard on Bates Street. He enjoyed the days he and Edna spent at Lost Valley, participating in shooting matches and bringing home the meat. He never missed a chance to visit the gambling boat and usually came home a winner. He also loved his handheld poker games, and if there was a bingo game, he was there.
Jim enjoyed clipping newspaper articles and obituaries of family and friends, neatly placing them into binders that remain a very interesting read.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in New Haven.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Haven, with Pastor David Boedecker officiating.
In Jim’s memory, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in New Haven or the American Heart Association.
