Independence Health System announces $8.8 million expansion

Independence Health System, Inc. has announced plans for a major $8.8 million expansion and renovation project at its Perryville campus that will significantly enhance senior living and healthcare services for local residents.

The project was made possible through support from the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) of Perry County, which issued industrial revenue bonds to assist with financing. Funding was provided by First State Community Bank.

“The IDA was pleased to support Independence Health System on this investment in Perry County,” said Crystal Jones, director of the Perry County Economic Development Authority. “Improving senior-care options not only strengthens the local quality of life but also supports continued economic growth in our community.”

Located at 800 S. Kingshighway in Perryville, the Independence campus serves hundreds of seniors each year through a range of housing and care programs. Planned upgrades and additions will include:

■ Renovation and interior improvements to skilled-nursing wings ■ Upgrades to residential-care apartments

■ Construction of a new 2,100-square-foot addition

■ Expansion of independent-living units ■ Expansion of the assisted-living wing to include memory-care services.

The investment will modernize facilities while broadening the range of services offered locally. A new locked memory-care wing will fill an important need by providing specialized support for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia — a service not currently available in Perry County.

Independence Health System has a long history of serving the region. For more than 50 years, the organization’s Independence Care Center has provided skilled-nursing care, while Independence Village and Independence Court have offered independent and assisted living focused on privacy, dignity, and quality of life.

“This investment reflects our dedication to providing a modern, comfortable, and supportive environment for our residents,” said Dana Korando, Administrator. “We look forward to expanding our services and continuing to meet the evolving needs of the Perry County community.”
