The Perry County Historical Society has installed a new exhibit featuring historic photographs and artifacts relating to Perryville at its headquarters in the Perryville Higher Education Center, 108 Vincentian Way.

The display includes 20 large framed photos of local places and people through the years, including the original St. Vincent School building, the St. Mary’s of the Barrens Seminary campus from around 1890, the old county jail on Spring Street, Perryville’s first courthouse in 1821, and the county’s elected officials in 1904.

Among the many objects on loan from the Perry County Museum are an antique “sick call” set, a piece of track from the Houck Railroad, and a variety of local advertising items. The exhibit also features a large property ownership map of Perry County from 1857.

“This exhibit will be a welcome sight for those who have not been able to visit our county museum in the Perryville City Park, which has been closed since a water leak was discovered last January,” said Bill Har, society director. Repairs at the museum have been completed, but the building is typically closed for the winter from December through February.

The temporary exhibit will be on display at least until the county museum reopens in March. Viewing is available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
