Genevieve “Genie” Weiss passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at her residence.
Genie was born May 30, 1938, at Dover General Hospital in Dover, New Jersey, the daughter of William Edward and Gladys May (Taylor) Provost.
Genie and Henry were married Oct. 17, 1981, in Wylie, Texas, after a 12- year romance.
Genie moved to Hanford, California, in 1954 with her parents, where she attended Hanford High School. She worked part-time at the “Glider-In,” a very well-known establishment in the area. She was forced to quit high school in 1956 during her junior year to care for her semi-invalid father after her mother died. At the age of 17, she purchased a donut shop in Hanford. She later took classes and completed training equivalent to two years of college.
Genie moved to Plano, Texas, in 1959, where she became a department manager for the F. W. Woolworth store. After two years there, she moved on to Texas Instruments Inc., where she met her husband, Henry. Following five years at TI, she joined Spectradyne Inc., where she served as purchasing manager for several years until her health forced her retirement.
During retirement, Genie volunteered for various organizations for 20 years. She became an ombudsman for the state of Texas, representing residents of several nursing homes in the Dallas area. She was named “Ombudsman of the Year” for the State of Texas Dallas District after only one year in that role — an accomplishment she was very proud of.
In December 2018, she and her husband moved from Plano to his hometown of Perryville.
She is survived by her husband, Henry of Perryville; one sister, Norma Trosky of Yorktown, Virginia; two children, Jamie Lynn Costa of Gainesville, Florida, and Michael Addison Curry of Caddo Mills, Texas; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Lane Curry; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Kaisley, Jessalynn and Damian Curry of The Colony, Texas; and several nieces and nephews who live in Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nila Lefke; and one son, Randal Lee Curry.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville. Burial took place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.
