Gary Daniel Schwent Sr., 81, of Perryville, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at his residence.
He was born May 12, 1944, in Perryville, to Oscar Herman Sr and Bernice Regina (Berkbigler) Schwent.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia M. Layton.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a member of the UAW, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Gary loved spending time with his family, mowing his yard and playing cards with his family and friends.
Survivors include three sons: Gary D. (Donna) Schwent Jr., Terry P. (Paula) Schwent, and Glen J. (Jackie) Schwent; daughter Kathryn (Arthur) McDowell; brother Keith (Linda) Schwent; sister Brenda (Wayne) Davis; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sylvia M. Schwent; stepmother, Zola Schwent; and great-granddaughter, Mariah Schwent.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville.
Burial will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to Journey Hospice.
