A multi-family home was destroyed Friday afternoon in a fire on Highway 61 that reportedly started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Garrett L. Schott, the Perry County Rural Fire Department was dispatched at 1:11 p.m. to a structure fire on Highway 61 South.
Upon their arrival, firefighters found a residential house fully involved,” he said. “Two 1 ¾-inch pre-connected lines were used to start fire suppression. Due to the extent of the fire, a 2 ½-inch line was used to assist with fire suppression. Mutual aid departments were called in with tankers and manpower. Mercy Perry EMS was called to provide rehab due to the weather conditions.”
Schott added that, although the home was destroyed, no one was injured.
The owner explained that he had left a frying pan on the stove while he took a phone call. When he returned to the kitchen, he saw the fire. The fire was extinguished, and the fire department left the scene at 2:09 p.m.
