A four-year-old child received serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash that took place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, on southbound I-55 at the 123-mile marker in Perry County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a southbound 2015 Dodge Ram 5500 driven by Glen E. Morgan, 50, of St. Mary, caught on fire, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the cable median barrier.
The driver drove to SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
An occupant in the pickup truck, an unidentified four-year-old boy, also of St. Mary, received serious injuries and was transported to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis by Air Evac helicopter, where he was treated for his injuries.
Both were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The pickup truck totaled in the incident was towed from the scene by Harris Towing.
