Posted

On Thursday, July 30, 2026, at approximately 1:22 a.m., the City of Perryville Fire Department responded to the 200 block of Hospital Lane in Perryville, Missouri,

following a report of a fire alarm activation. While crews were enroute, dispatch advised that smoke had been observed coming from the structure, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a commercial structure fire response.

The first arriving fire unit encountered heavy smoke coming from the front entrance of the building. Firefighters made entry to locate the source of the smoke and determined it was originating from the lower level. After accessing the lower level through a side entrance, crews encountered heavy smoke and located the fire in the building’s stairwell. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

The fire was determined to have been caused by the malfunction of a light fixture located in the stairwell. The building sustained smoke and water damage on both the lower and upper floors.

The Perryville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Chester Fire Department. Additional mutual aid departments were dispatched but were canceled after the fire was brought under control. Perry Mercy EMS established a firefighter rehabilitation area during the incident.

A total of 19 firefighters and six fire apparatus responded to the scene. All units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.
