Embrace forgiveness, fight for justice

Posted

It’s judgment time.

Hold onto your shorts. SittinG here sippinG iced tea, reminiscing under the old River Tree, the old guy’s gotta admit he’s been around awhile.

Whatever his failings and faults, he’s been blessed to be raised by a loving and forgiving Christian mother and grandmother. Particularly blessed, re. the forgiving part … ouch!

Thanks to my beautiful bride, I joined those Romans some twenty years ago. You know, the first church, the Catholics.

Not proselytizing, just saying it’s reinforced the wonderful teaching and examples I got as a scruffy kid.

No lying or cheating. Don’t look down on or hate anybody, even when they’ve behaved like first class doofuses.

Hey, it’s tough. Don’t abide revenge or killing even though life’s far from fair. Wrap your arms around the freedom that is forgiveness but dig your heels in on justice for all human beings because that’s what He always demands of us.

Having said that, we, as human beings, Christians and citizens have both an opportunity and yep, a responsibility to demand the blessed purging of Christian justice next Tuesday, if we haven’t already voted.

Christ asks us to cast aside for His ultimate judgment, folks who purposefully ignore or condone demeaning, threatening, attempting or doing harm to any human beings, whether they be immigrants, Palestinians, Iranians, Haitians, Hispanics, Somalians, Ukrainians or our fellow citizens who happen to disagree with us.

Likewise with folks who lie and cheat to enrich themselves or gain power.

Likewise with folks who ignore or condone the above.

Why?

Injustice harms His children/those it’s committed against.

Injustice harms His children/those who commit it or condone it by corrupting and ultimately destroying their souls. By the way, we throw the term corruption around as if it’s just some type of epithet, or to describe condoning or participating in self-dealing, self-enriching behavior. But what does it really mean within this His creation? It’s the decaying of some part of His creation. In this case, it’s the rotting of the soul of a human being. And, if we set “good” down next to the decaying, we know what happens. If we associate with or stand by and ignore rot and corruption, it’s going to get us as well.

That moral corruption and how it’s seeped in, is horribly apparent in recent days in the Ohio governor’s race, where the Republican candidate posted a desperate, despicable ad featuring specious claims of the long estranged and child rape and abuse enabling mother of the Democratic candidate. Look it up if you want to be totally repulsed. Why bring it up? Two individuals we elected to represent this nation as our Vice President and President defended and are still blithely defending this rot.

Which brings up another issue. Amendment 3. Certain politicians and folks who purport to embrace religion claim we have to vote to take away the rights of and even condemn women who decide to end a pregnancy. They say it’s because it’s a sin and yes, evil. As a Catholic I agree that it’s a sin to purposefully return to God one of His precious souls. But God’s placed us here to care for and grow his irreplaceable creation and by doing so, our own souls. The devil would show us imperfections and then ask to sign over our souls because of them. Let us not be confused. I guarantee God will not embrace those who attempt to dictate to, torture and condemn innocent, often poor women struggling within His creation.

God will embrace souls just conceived and not yet opened to life. The sin of that return is finally infinitesimal compared to the devastation being inflicted on innocent, often poor women and frankly to all of humanity by the virulent corruption of these hypocrites and their willing or soul clouded sycophants.

Evil breeds corruption. Demand every candidate condemn it. If they don’t … We. Know. Our. Job.
