District 32 seeks applicants to fill school board vacancy

Perry County School District 32 is looking for a new face to join its board of education after the resignation of member Melissa Carroll at Wednesday night’s meeting.

Carroll, who was elected in April 2024, is relocating outside the district. Board members expressed appreciation for her service.

The board will accept applications for the open seat through noon on Oct. 2. Interviews are scheduled for Oct. 6, with the goal of appointing and swearing in a new member at the Oct. 8 meeting. Whoever is selected will serve until the April 2026 election, when voters will choose a candidate to complete the remainder of the term expiring in April 2027.

“Serving on the board of education is a meaningful way to give back to your community while helping shape the future for our students,” Board President Dominic Blythe said.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION

Applicants must meet state qualifications: be at least 24 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident taxpayer of the district for at least one year. Candidates cannot be delinquent on taxes, have a felony conviction, or be a registered sex offender.

Additional requirements include compliance with campaign disclosure rules, when applicable. Those interested should submit a letter of interest along with a completed application packet by the Oct. 2 deadline. Packets are available at the District 32 administrative office, 519 N. Main St. in Perryville.
