County clerk says election process went smoothly

County Clerk Jared Kutz reported that 35.92 percent of Perry County voters took part in the Aug. 6 Primary Election that covered a range of national, state and county races.

"We're right in line with past years," he said. "We've got a few more registered voters now, so I think the vote totals probably are spot on as far as things go."

Kutz also noted that the election process went smoothly.

"It was pretty good," he said. "There were no problems and no mess-ups. As far as the precincts, the judges did a great job. It was the traditional things you face every election, like people who had moved, who needed to change their registration, and things like that. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred at the polls.

"We had a couple of voters get a little excited about some things because, you know, the passions were high in the community, but it was nothing that our judges couldn't handle. If a voter has a question, I tell the judges to have them give me a call. I have not talked to a single voter that had a problem or a bad experience, so it was a good day at the polls."

Most importantly, Kutz believes that the voters who wanted to vote got to vote, and the results were decisive.

"I wish for wide margins," he said. "A wide margin is outside the margin of error where a recount could be requested. We got wide enough margins that we don't have to worry about any recounts."

Kutz also offered words of praise for the election judges.

"I've got to commend my election judges for how they handle themselves at the polls and the professionalism with which they serve the voters," he said. "That really is the key to what we do. We have a good group of experienced judges.

“They're not scared to ask questions when they don't know the answer. They're not here for the money. They're here because they want to provide a public service. We're just here to serve the people and ensure fair and balanced elections."
