It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Claudia Maire Slayton, who departed this life on September 11, 2025, at the age of 76, at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born on January 6, 1949, in Fulton, Ky., to Claude E. Slayton and Rebecca D. (Harp) Slayton.
Claudia lived a life full of grace, kindness and quiet strength. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth and wisdom touched everyone she met. Her home was a place of comfort, her table always open, and her heart always giving.
Claudia was known for her faith, gentle spirit, quick wit and her love for her children and grandchildren.
She retired as a purchasing planner for TG USA in Perryville. Claudia found joy in simple things like visiting with family and friends, spending time with her great-grandchildren, playing cards, reading, sitting and talking with her neighbors, or listening to music.
Loving survivors include her children: Kevin (Tara) Rhodes of Jackson and Donna (Darren) Bullard of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren: Alex Rhodes of Jackson; Colton (Jazmin) Rhodes of Jackson; LJ Taylor of Jackson; Brooke Taylor of Jackson; Jessica Kuntze of Jackson; Blake (Haley) Bullard of Jackson; Jordan Hadler of Jackson; and Shane Bullard of Cape Girardeau; great-grandchildren: Cali Rhodes; Kynlee and Korbyn Kuntze; Casen Hadler; and Landyn and Bella Bullard; and sisters: Peggy Copeland of Fulton, Ky., and Judy Knox of Festus, who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings: Joe Bagwell; John Bagwell; Dorthea Mautone; Edwin Bagwell; Virginia Osborne; William Bagwell; Patsy Ussery; Carolyn Graffius; and Mary Foulk.
To celebrate Claudia’s life, a memorial visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
At 7 p.m., the family shared brief memories of Claudia. All who knew and loved her were welcome to attend and share in remembering a life so beautifully lived.
Although our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing her love will remain with us always.
The family planned to honor Claudia with a private inurnment.
If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
