The Perryville Piranhas swim team finished the season with six first place finishes at the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Championship Meet held July 13 in Cape Girardeau. Other teams competing in the event included the host, River City Aquatics, Kennett, Jackson Barracudas, Ste. Genevieve Stingrays SEMO Blueracers and Poplar Bluff. Lux Myer won the Female 9-10 SC 50 Fly in 33.52 seconds, the Female 9-10 SC 100 Free in 1:09.48, and the Female 9-10 SC 100 in 1:16.02; Emmitt Sander won the Male 8 and Under SC 25 Free in 18.03 seconds; and Joshua Southard won the Male 9-10 SC Free in 34.15 seconds, and the Male 9-10 100 Free in 1:15.85. According to Coach Angie Schupp is accompanying three members of the Perryville Piranhas swim team, as well as 15 other swimmers from the Southeast Conference, at the Junior Olympics in swimming being held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Missouri Disabled Sportsmen will hold its third annual “Making It Possible” Benefit Fish Fry and Music Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bloomsdale. The meal will be served from 2 to 6 p.m. The non-profit organization seeks to make the outdoors more accessible to individuals who cannot do so due to physical mobility limitations through direct or indirect assistance.

The Perryville Piranhas swim team walked away with a third-place team finish at the Perryville SMSC meet held July 6 at the Perry Park Center in Perryville, falling to River City Aquatics, which led the field with 532.5 points. The Farmington area Swim Team was second with 376.5 points and Perryville turned in 267, led by 17 first-place finishes. Other teams competing in the event were the Ste. Genevieve Stingrays, the SEMO Blue Racers, the Jackson Barracudas, and the Poplar Bluff Piranhas. For Perryville, Emmitt Sander won the Boys 8 & Under 25 SC Meter Freestyle in 20.34 seconds, the Boys 8 & Under 25 SC Meter Breaststroke in 28.17, and the Boys 8 & Under 100 SC Meter IM in 2 minutes, 3.74 seconds; Joshua Southard won the Boys 9-10 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 39.76, the Boys 9-10 100 SC Meter Freestyle in 1:30.47 and the Boys 9-10 100 SC Meter IM in 1:48.80; Kyler Gugel won the Boys 13-14 100 SC Meter Freestyle in 1:12.67, the Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 31.42, and the Boys 13-14 200 SC Meter IM in 3:05.10; Mylia Redecker won the Girls 6 & Under 25 SC Meter Backstroke in 38.43; Derek Sander won the Boys 9-10 50 SC Meter Backstroke in 58.03and the Boys 9-10 50 SC Meter Breaststroke in 1:09.32; Sage Wolk won the Boys 11-12 50 SC Meter Backstroke in 45.91; Lux Meyer won the Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Breaststroke in 43.99, the Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Butterfly in 36.22, and the Girls 9-10 100 SC Meter Freestyle in 1:16.48; Mackenzie Southard won the Girls 11-12 50 SC Meter Breaststroke in 46.38 seconds; Arias Talamantes won the Boys 8 & Under 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 53.71, and the Boys 8 & Under 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 53.71. Over the past 10 years, the Twisted Cat Outdoors Fishing Tournament has become increasingly popular across the Midwest. While last Saturday’s tournament in Perryville had to be postponed due to rising waters and floating debris in the Mississippi River, the event will be rescheduled to a future date, which hadn’t been decided by press time Tuesday.

Other teams competing in the event included the host, the Farmington Area Swim Team, Jackson Barracudas, River City Aquatics, Poplar Bluff Piranhas Swim Team and the Ste. Genevieve Stingrays. Emmitt Sander won the Boys 8 & Under 25 SC Meter Freestyle in 18.40 seconds and the Boys 8 & Under 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 46.12 seconds; Joshua Southard won the Boys 9-10 100 SC Meter Freestyle in 1:21.34; Eleanore Sullins won the Girls 6 & Under 25 SC Meter Freestyle in 44.17 seconds; Mackenzie Southard won the Girls 11-12 50 SC Meter Breaststroke in 41.96 seconds; Willow Sutterer won the Girls 11-12 50 SC Meter Backstroke in 39.59 seconds; and Lux Meyer won the Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Freestyle in 31.48 seconds, Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Backstroke in 37.01 seconds; Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Breaststroke in 41.13 seconds, and Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Butterfly in 35.07 seconds. The Piranhas competed in Poplar Bluff on June 29 for a Junior Olympic qualifier before hosting a home meet on Saturday. The league championship meet will be held July 13 in Cape Girardeau.
