Viola Irene Clifton, 92, of Alton, Ill., formerly of Perryville passed away at 8:20 am, Saturday, July 16, 2022 at River Crossing of Alton in Alton, Ill..
She was born to the late Bennett and Minnie (nee Mantz) Cashion on June 23, 1930 in Crosstown.
Viola married Thelburn Puntman on May 10, 1948; he preceded her in death. She then married Homer Childers on Oct. 27, 1963; he preceded her in death on July 12, 1979. She then married Martin Clifton on Sept. 2, 2000; he preceded her on Oct. 14, 2004.
She had worked in packaging at Gilster Mary-Lee Corporation before retiring.
Viola was a member of First Baptist Church in Perryville.

She is survived by two children: Randy Childers of Edwardsville, Ill. and Carolyn (Freddie) Childers of South Roxanna, Ill.; three step-children: Anna (Butch) Brune of Perryville, Paul (Betty) Clifton of Perryville, and Martin (Eunis) Clifton, Jr. of Nebraska; step-grandson Donny (Stephanie) Childers; three step-great grandchildren: Greg (Shiori) Chmielewski, Nathan (Kristin) Childers, Brandon (Elizabeth) Childers; five step-great-great grandchildren: Aiden Chmielewski, Alyana Chmielewski, Declan Childers, Jaxon Childers and Blake Collins, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; first husband – Thelburn Puntman, second husband – Homer Childers, third husband – Martin Clifton; one step son – Dallas (Joan) Childers; one brother – Edmund Cashion and three sisters – Chloe McCarthy, Evla Johnson and Jean French.
Visitation was Tuesday July 19, 2022 and Wednesday July 20 at Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester.
Funeral services will followed with Rev. Phillip Keeton officiating.
Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.
