TG Missouri (TGMO) announced on Monday that the Perryville plant, along with other global locations under the Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. umbrella, will take significant steps in the near future to contribute to energy sustainability.
It’s all part of TGMO’s parent company's corporate initiative to align with communities, businesses, and citizens worldwide who are adopting renewable energy solutions, such as solar panel installations, representing a significant step toward environmental sustainability.
Through discussions with local officials and energy advocates, TGMO’s capability to generate clean energy has continued to improve. With the necessary approvals now secured, the company has said it will partner with specialized green energy contractors and local energy providers to install solar options at the Perryville facility. It’s TGMO’s intention to create cost-effective power solutions that will facilitate the transition to clean energy, ensuring long-term benefits for the community and future generations.
TGMO’s solar power project is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The equipment will be installed on TGMO property; however, it will be owned by a new power provider specializing in green energy.
TGMO will utilize all of the energy generated by this solar array project. While this won't provide all of the energy TGMO needs, it will reportedly enable them to gain the following benefits:
Energy Costs Stability: This project will allow TGMO to control long-term electricity expenses with zero out-of-pocket investment.
Energy Capacity: This project will reduce the current power load on providers in the area, allowing for increased future demand and growth of the community.
Environmental Sustainability: Solar power reduces carbon emissions, helping to preserve Missouri’s environment.
Community Impact: This project sets an example for local businesses, building Perry County’s reputation as a leader in sustainability.
“We are thrilled to implement this solar energy project, reinforcing our commitment to both sustainability and our community,” said Robert Patrick, TG Missouri president. “By taking action today, we can help create a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.”
When asked about the project, Perryville City Administrator Brent Buerck noted that he sees potential for industrial growth in the city due to TGMO’s shift toward sustainable energy at its Perryville plant.
“Generally speaking, electricity is a commodity with limited supply,” Buerck said. “TG’s ability to offset even a portion of their electric use by building solar panels helps create a situation that potentially allows for additional businesses to enter and expand in our industrial park.”
TGMO is building on initiatives they have already implemented, enhancing the community’s existing solar arrays. This effort aligns with both Toyoda Gosei’s Global initiatives and Missouri’s broader efforts to promote renewable energy. Construction is expected to begin before the end of 2025 and be completed in 2027.
