After weeks of elevated cases — and a jump in the county’s risk assessment level — things seem to have calmed down a bit in recent days regarding COVID-19 in Perry County.
On Tuesday, the Perry County Health Deaprtment reported 15 new conformed cases and an additional probable case from Saturday through Monday, along with 36 recoveries, bringing the county’s totals to 488 total cases — 58 active — with 426 recoveries and four deaths.
“Fortunately, we did not have as many cases over the weekend as we had been seeing,” said health department assistant director and epidemiologist Liz House, who added that it’s still too soon to tell if the risk assessment can be reduced. “In order for us to determine if we are trending down, we want to see 14 days of consistent, sustained decreases in numbers.”
The recent rapid increases in Perry County prompted the state to schedule a third community testing event in Perryville, again be conducted by the Missouri National Guard. The event is scheduled from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at City Park in Perryville.
The free testing is open to all residents of Missouri, whether they are experiencing symptoms or not, and no doctor’s order is required.
As with previous testing, online registration is available through the state Department of Health and Senior Services at health.mo.gov/communitytest or by calling the state hotline at 877-435-8411.
Registrants will be given a 15-minute appointment block. At the drive-through testing site, they will be asked questions regarding symptoms. Patients will later be notified of their results by DHSS.
