SV track sends athletes to state meet

The Indians are state bound.
After the St. Vincent track team had a great district meet, that success continued. St. Vincent will send three individuals and four relay teams onto state after competing at a Class 1 Sectional on Saturday at New Haven. To qualify for state an individual or team must finish in the top four in a particular event.
“I was happy with the way the kids did,” St. Vincent track coach Angie Hudson said. “Getting to state is something that should be appreciated.”
Hudson was especially proud of Reese Zoellner, who finished third in the pole vault with a height of 7-6.50.
“We knew going in that she was going to have to jump close to her PR,” Hudson said. “Her best is eight feet. She wasn’t able to hit that but she still jumped really well.”
Claire Otte finished fourth in the Javelin with a distance of (90-6.0) and Payton Unterreiner finished fourth in the 400 meter run with a distance of 1:05.46. Unterreiner is a freshman and Hudson was impressed with her day running against older athletes.
“I was a little nervous about her going in because she is so young as a runner,” Husdon said. “Payton has a good stride and it looks effortless when she runs.”

Jacob Schremp is moving on in the discus after finishing second with a distance of 124-8.0. Schremp narrowly missed out on moving on in the javelin, finishing sixth.
“He was a little disappointed in the result in the javelin, but there were a lot of kids hitting PRs and hitting their distances above what they were seeded,” Hudson said. Sometimes that’s the way it goes sometimes.”
The boys will send four relay teams to the state meet as well.
The 4x400 (3:45.09) and the 4x800 (9:05.58) finished second, while the 4x100 (46.99) and the 4x200 (1:39.63) finished third.
“To have all four move onto state I consider that exceptional,” Hudson said. “A couple of those boys have been together for two years. We have one senior on those relay teams. But they have wanted this since last year, when several of them went one year ago.”
The state competition will be at Jefferson City and Hudson expects them to do well.
“Every meet we tell the kids to run their own race,” she said. “If they focus on getting that PR or shaving off just a few seconds and keep building, I’m ok with that.”
