Suspect in custody after shooting

One person is in custody after a late-night shooting on Thursday in Perryville.

According to a news release from the Perryville Police Department, several 911 phone calls were made to the Perryville Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 11:32 p.m. reporting shots fired in the 200 block of W. South St. in Perryville.

As officers responded to the area, a male subject arrived in the lobby of the police department on Jackson Street stating he had been shot in the chest.

The subject was transported by EMS to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Officers were able to locate the residence where the incident occurred and took a family member of the victim into custody.

Perryville Police Department spokesman Cpl. Jeri Cain said the incident was an "ongoing investigation" and more information will be released as it becomes available and once charges are filed.
