St. Vincent’s Schaaf, Schumer earn top I-55 Conference awards

To the victors go the spoils. St. Vincent football garnered multiple I-55 Conference awards when the honors were recently announced. The Indians won the conference for the first time since 2004, so it only made sense that they should earn two of the top three individual honors.
St. Vincent junior quarterback Christian Schaaf earned the Offensive MVP of the conference. Schaaf threw for 1,968 yards with 23 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while rushing for 351 yards and seven touchdowns.
St. Vincent coach Tim Schumer won the I-55 Conference Coach of the Year after leading St. Vincent to the conference title with a 4-1 mark.
A total of 16 players and one coach earned honors for the Indians, including nine first team honors.
St. Vincent senior Trevor Moonier earned a first-team slot for two different positions. Moonier was a first-team receiver as well as the first team kicker on special teams. Moonier had 36 catches for 654 yards and nine touchdowns. The Indians had a second wide receiver make the first team as Kaden Kassel also earned the honor. Kassel had 27 catches for 517 yards and seven scores.
Senior Jacob Hennemann earned a first team honor at offensive tackle.
Junior Drake Robinson led the way for the St. Vincent defense with a team-leading 137 tackles, one sack, and one interception.
Senior Simon Unterreiner earned a spot as a defensive lineman, where he had 36 tackles with a combination of two forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Senior Isaac Graham was a first team defensive back with 42 tackles and one interception.

Mason Light was the final first team selection for the Indians as he earned a spot as an athlete.
Light had 243 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with 85 receiving yards on the season. On defense, Light had one sack, one interception as he missed part of the end of the season with an injury.
Senior Ross Hlavek earned a spot on the second team as a center, while senior Isaac Naeger earned a selection as a guard. Naeger also earned a spot as a defensive lineman on the second team. Naeger had 47 tackles, to go along with two sacks.
Sophomore John Schwartz was named a second team defensive back as he had 41 tackles, two interceptions.
Senior Liam Krauss earned a second team selection as a defensive end as he had 40 tackles and four sacks for the St. Vincent defense this year.
Sophomore Cruz Reitzel was named an honorable mention running back as he rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns, along with two receiving touchdowns. Reitzel was also named honorable mention linebacker as well with 62 tackles and four sacks.
Colby Hayden was named an honorable mention defensive lineman. He had one sack on the season.
Clayton Gremaud was named honorable mention defensive back as he had 67 tackles and one interception.
Kassel and Hlavek were named honorable mention linebackers. Kassel had 47 tackles and one sack.
