Local law enforcement continues to locate a person believed to be responsible for an attempting kidnapping May 21 in the city of Altenburg.

The incident allegedly occurred in the 8500 block of Main Street and the initial report of the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m.

At 4:24 p.m., Perry County Emergency 911 sent the following alert: Mid 30s, white male, heavy set, black beard, black hair, jean shorts last seen in the area of Altenburg, if seen do not approach, dial 911.

“We’re not sure who it is or if they are from the area,” said Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf.

Deputies responded to the area Saturday afternoon, Schaaf said.

As of Monday, May 23, there were no further updates from the sheriff’s department. The case is still being investigated, according to Schaaf.

An AMBER alert was never issued because the individual, an 11-year-old, was not taken, Schaaf said.

If the individual is found and law enforcement officials can prove they were in fact responsible for Saturday’s alleged incident, the person could face attempted kidnapping charges, according to Schaaf.
