The Rotary Club of Perryville held a work day in mid-December for the Lucas and Friends Backyard Adventure playground project, which will be part of Robert J. Miget Memorial Park on French Lane.
In early December, the concrete pad for the playground was poured and much of the equipment arrived a few days later.
The Rotary club helped with the purchase of an abacus for the playground. The club received a matching grant totaling $3,000.
The club received $1,500 in local contributions while the remaining $1,500 was received through the Rotary district, which is funded through Rotarian contributions worldwide.
On Dec. 12, Volunteers assisted Wayne Meyer of D & K Masonry with installing rock panels for a retaining wall around the playground.

Part of the grant project involves hands-on work, said Becky Paulus, president of the Rotary Club.
“That way we participate with some of the manual labor as well as financial assistance,” Paulus said.
The Rotary club applied for the grant in March 2020, was awarded funds in June and eventually received the funding in August, Paulus said.
The Club has the opportunity to write for grants from within its specified Rotary district, Paulus said.
Last fall, another grant the club received funding for was a project to add library books to the Perry County District 32 primary center.
