Project will lead to Highway E detour

A portion of Highway E (Allen’s Landing Road) will be closed next month as a new sewer “trunk” line will be installed by Dry Run Branch, according to city of Perryville engineer Tim Baer.
The project includes the installation of a 30-inch sewer pipe that takes sewage from lift stations to the city’s water treatment plant on Hidden Valley Lane south of the city limits.
Baer told the aldermen in November an agreement was reached with the Missouri Department of Transportation to overcut the existing roadway as opposed to boring beneath the state highway.
“It’s a fairly short crossing,” Baer said. “It’s going to save us a lot of money to overcut it vs. bore through all that rock. They understood all of that. In the end, it took us a while to get there. We’ll shut that road down for a short time, get across there and open it back up.”
Traffic will be diverted west through Ridge Line Estates (Ridge Drive) and Smith Street then down to U.S. Highway 61.
“I think it’s pretty clear cut what needs to be done,” Baer said. “We’ve got a good traffic plan
The work is likely to start in early 2022 and last about a week, according to Baer. There will be detour signs up a couple of weeks prior to the work beginning.
Economic development report
Scott Sattler, executive director of the Perry County Economic Development Authority, provided an update on public transportation last month to the Perryville Board of Aldermen. A public transportation pilot will continue next week.
Organizers of the Local Individualized Family Transit, or LIFT kickoff event Oct. 22, funded through a National Center for Mobility Management grant, will be running the transportation service again starting Monday, Dec. 6.
The service will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and have free boardings. Individuals are encouraged to call SMTS of Perryville at 573-547-8016 for more information or to scheduled a pickup at one of the stops.

“We had a lot of community support (that) came out for that,” Sattler said. “(It was) very good. We ran the bus for five hours. Now, the team is proposing that we do that service again from Dec. 6 to 23, a more expanded test.”
“We’ve applied for the next phase, the pilot phase, which would be a $75,000 grant to run (the program) for a month,” Sattler said.
If approved, the pilot program would run in spring 2022, possibly March or April, according to Sattler.
Attorney report
The Board of Aldermen finalized a contract for city attorney services with Hoeh & Pistorio LLC. This firm will now be handling the city’s legal affairs as attorney Tom Ludwig is retiring at the end of 2021.
“I’m confident that the transition will go extremely well,” Ludwig said.

Members of a local Girl Scout troop attended the Nov. 16 meeting. A prayer was read by one of the members and the four girls led those in attendance in the pledge of allegiance.
Toward the end of the meeting, Mayor Ken Baer had his photo taken with the girls
“This all sounded like a lot of words, right?” Baer said. “But it did a lot, believe me. We did everything from hiring an attorney to making a movie to building a tech center.”
The Perryville Board of Aldermen will host its next meeting Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
