Perryville Optimist Soccer League rededicated its Tom Tomlinson Presentation Area at The Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex on Friday, May 6.
The late Tom Tomlinson was the pioneer for Perryville Soccer in the 1980s.
“Tom was very passionate about providing soccer to area youth in Perryville and Perry County- and worked to establish the league with other Optimist members,” said Amanda Winschel,

POSL League and Tournament Director.
Along with the Tom Tomlinson family, the POSL and the City of Perryville partnered up to rededicate the Tom Tomlison presentation area after a newly remodeled landscaping project. This eight-week project included all new landscaping around the main pavilion in The Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex located on Star Street.
Volunteers, coaches, local business leaders, City and County employees, officials and the Tomlinson family were in attendance.
Winschel kicked off the ceremony with POSL history, the rededication of the presentation area and details on the current efforts of the POSL. Jim Caldwell, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Perryville shared his gratitude to the POSL, volunteers and partnerships with local businesses to complete the past, current and future projects for youth soccer. During the ceremony, City of Perryville Mayor Larry Riney presented a proclamation to Orlene Tomlinson and her children. This proclamation stated May 6, 2022 was “Tom and Orlene Tomlinson Day in Perryville, MO” due to their efforts and support of Perryville soccer for more than 40 years.
The Perryville Optimist Soccer Committee provided a BBQ lunch to all in attendance and gave the group an opportunity to walk around and view the newly renovated Tom Tomlinson Presentation area.
