Perryville (10-9) closed out the regular season last week with a 10-2 loss to visiting Set. Genevieve on May 15.
The Dragons (12-9) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead on an RBI-single from Noah Willett and a 1- run double from Eli Bennett, added another in fourth, three each in the fifth and sixth and another in the seventh to set the final margin.
Trailing 9-0 after five innings, Perryville scored 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to center field from Troy O’Keefe.
Bryce Weber took the loss for Perryville, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out 3 and walking 3.
Maddox Sutton earned the victory for Ste. Genevieve giving up 2 runs on 6 hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out 1 and walking 2.
Gideon Stueve led the Pirates at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 from the leadoff position. O’Keefe was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.
Ste. Genevieve finished with 12 hits, led by Eli Bennett, who was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Isaiah Basler was 3-for-4.
Perryville, the No. 2 seed, was scheduled to take on third-seeded Park Hills Central (7-15) in Tuesday’s first round of the Class 4, District 2 playoffs. The two teams met only once in the regular season, with Perryville coming out on top, 1-0, on their home field.
Among six common opponents — DeSoto, Festus, Fredericktown, Hillsboro, Festus Jefferson, and Ste Genevieve — Perryville holds a slight edge, topping DeSoto 6-5 and Festus Jefferson 1-0.
Central’s only victory in that group was a 6-0 victory over Fredericktown, a team that beat Perryville 5-0.
