Perryville High School is about to enter into the world of mystery.
The Perryville High School Silver Dagger Players will be presenting the play “The Hound of the Baskervilles” next week.
Performances will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 3-5 at 7 p.m. at the Old Senior High Performing Arts Auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $7.
“I like to try to change up the type of play that we do,” Director Jennifer Birk-Cook said. “We have been doing a lot of children plays lately with ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ last year. So we thought we would try a mystery.”
The play comic thriller is centered around Shirley Holmes and Jennie Watson, nieces of the well-known Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, who are on vacation.
“It gives a part for two other females,” Birk-Cook said. “It’s a twist to the plot and obviously in the 1800s women wouldn’t be crime fighters or a doctor, so it’s kind of cool.”
Things have been going well in rehearsal.
“We have a smaller cast,” she said. “We don’t have many upperclassmen this year because during the two years of COVID, so I have about half of the people I would have four years ago.”
Birk-Cook is not only excited about the play itself, but also the environment. The Old Senior High is having a new speaker and microphone system installed this week, which should enhance the viewing experience. There will also be new lights.
“The Old Senior High has been dark and the lights haven’t been the best for several years,” she said. “We have been trying to find a better way to do it, but we have had to rig it up the best way we could.”
