Perryville man dies in Highway 51 collision

A 21-year-old Perryville man died as a result of a traffic accident in the early morning hours of May 19, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sloan A. Hunter, southbound in a 2003 GMC Sierra on Highway 51, crossed the center line and entered the path of Almeda Eaves' 2020 Freightliner, according to the accident report.

The vehicles struck head on. Hunter, who was not wearing a safety device, was pronounced at the scene of the crash by Perry County Coroner Bill Bohnert at approximately 1:38 a.m.

Eaves, 63, of Henderville, Ky., was taken by Air Evac to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was wearing a safety device, the accident report stated.
