Perry County now 12th in COVID-19 positivity rate

Earlier this spring, Perry County was showing a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases and there was a time in May when the county had the highest positivity rate.
Those figures seem to be improving and along with that, the state is reporting that close to one-fourth of residents have completed vaccination. The latest statistics show Perry County 12th in positivity rate (7.69 cases) per 100,000. The top five in this metric are Ozark County (15.63), Linn County (12.5), Madison County (12.2), Newton County (12.00) and Livingston County (11.79).
Cape Girardeau County is 26th in the state (5.25) while Ste. Genevieve County is 99th (1.00) among the state’s 117 counties.
The counties ranked 102nd through 118th do not have any cases per 100,000.
Vaccine update
In Perry County, there have been 27.2 percent of residents who have received at least a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as a reported 5,197 of 19,136 residents have “initiated vaccination.”
The top five counties in terms of “initiated vaccination” are Boone (46.1 percent), St. Louis County (42.9 percent), St. Charles (41.8 percent), Joplin (41.5 percent) and Atchison and Franklin counties (tied for fifth at 38.6 percent).

For completed vaccination, the Perry County total is at 23.9 percent, with 4,576 of 19,136 residents in this category. This is tied for 49th statewide. Cape Girardeau County is at 26.8 percent (23,772 of 78,871), which ranks 13th among Missouri’s 117 counties. Ste. Genevieve County is at 26.8 percent (4,799 of 17,894), which ranks 31st.
Other nearby counties are slightly below Perry County’s total of 23.9 percent.
St. Francis County is at 23.4 percent (15,754 of 34,159), Madison is at 20.6 percent (2,493 of 12,088) and Bollinger County is at 19.7 percent (2,387 of 12,133), St.
The top counties by percent completed at Boone (39.6), Atchison (35.7) and Joplin and St. Louis counties (tied at 35.5). The lowest completed vaccination rate in the state belongs to Pulaski County, at 9.2 percent, as 4,864 of 52,607 residents have completed vaccination.
Deaths
In terms of pandemic death rate, Perry County ranks 47th with 156.8 deaths per 100,000 residents. A total of 30 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported since the start of the pandemic.
Statewide, the highest death rate is Grundy County at 345.2 deaths per 100,000 residents, according to showmestrong.mo.gov, the state of Missouri’s COVID-19 data center for pandemic statistics. The county has reported 34 total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
