Perry County Health System, CEO Chris Wibbenmeyer gave an update on Perry County Memorial Hospital as it continues renovations after a water main break in December. The statement is as follows:
“Perry County Health System (PCHS) has been working meticulously to repair and renovate our Operating Room (OR) that was affected by an unfortunate sprinkler pipe break. This occurred at the end of December when Perry County experienced bitter cold temperatures.
With the assistance of many contractors and our staff, we repaired, restored, and meticulously cleaned our OR to ensure a safe and sterile environment. Thankfully, Phase 1 of the OR renovations is complete and we re-opened the OR this week. Our provider offices will be in communication with their patients regarding upcoming procedural care.
PCHS also incurred water damage to the Pre-and Post-Op areas of the OR. However, with our top priority being to re-open our OR, these areas are Phase 2 of our OR renovations. We will temporarily utilize other areas of the hospital, near the OR, for these services.

Phase 2 also includes the clinic locations in our medical office building. Our teams will continue to work to bring these locations back to operational status as quickly as possible. We appreciate the community’s patience and support through this process and will continue to provide updates as we progress.”
Over the Christmas holidays, a water pipe burst and flooded several wings of the buildings. Wibbenmeyer also issued a statement as procedures were changed.
“During the bitter cold over the Christmas holiday, Perry County Health System (PCHS) suffered an unfortunate water pipe break that damaged a portion of our hospital and medical office building. As a result, our surgery department will be out of service until the area can be repaired, restored, and meticulously cleaned. All patients scheduled for surgery will be notified directly by PCHS. The water damage does not impact our emergency department or other lines of service.
Damage to the medical office building in the gastroenterology clinic (Dr. Gaeta) and one primary care office (Dr. Reinagel) requires us to transition care out of the damaged spaces and into other areas.
Again, patients will hear from us directly in advance of their visit and appropriate signage will be posted when entering the facility. We appreciate the support and understanding of our community, and we will continue to provide updates as we make progress on the restoration.”
