'On-going investigation' continues after body found

Foul play not suspected, according to the Perryville Police Department

Thursday, Sept, 16, 2021 at approximately 7:15 p.m., the  Perryville Police Department responded to the area of E. Wichern in reference to a body laying near the fence line of a bean field, according to a release from the department.

Upon arrival, officers located a white male in his 50s laying unresponsive along the fence row, according to the press release. Ambulance determined the male was deceased and police department detectives were called out.

This is an on-going investigation, but foul play is not suspected at this time.

“(The) preliminary investigation shows the male had a series of medical issues and we believe that contributed to his death,” said Cpl. Jeri Cain, Public Information Officer with the Perryville Police Department.

Assistant Police/Fire chief Bill Jones sent the following statement Friday, Sept. 17:

A deceased white male was located in a soybean field next to the Perryville Manor Apartments on N. Main St. Thursday, Sept. 16. The cause of death is still under investigation but nothing appears suspicious at the present time. This was a 56-year-old white male. Perryville Fire department as well as the Perry County coroner’s office was called in reference to removing the body. Case remains under investigation.
