New Burger King set to open this summer

It may not look like much just yet, but that open piece of ground near the Perryville Super 8 hotel will soon be home to a brand-new Burger King restaurant. According to John Echimovich, vice president of operations for Midamerica Hotels Corporation of Cape Girardeau, the owner of the franchise, the new location may not look like much now, but is expected to open this year. “We’re still locked in by weather, but we’re looking to open this summer,” Echimovich said. “The new location is fantastic and we think it’s going be a perfect addition on that side of the highway.” The new location is located just off Vincent Drive on the west side of Interstate 55 and south of state Hwy. 51, next to the Super Eight. The city’s current Burger King restaurant is located at 1205 S. Perryville Blvd., east of I-55 on Hwy. 51 and across from KFC. Echimovich said the fate of the existing building has yet to be determined, but added that it will remain open until the new restaurant is completed. “There will be a very short period where it will be closed,” Echimovich said, “a very short time while we move a few things over to the new location.” Midamerica Hotels operates 35 Burger Kings in four states, along with three Popeyes Lousiana Kitchen locations — in Cape Girardeau, St. Louis and Poplar Bluff — and seven hotels, including two Auburn Place properties, with locations in Cape Girardeau, south St. Louis, and Paducah, Ky.
