Mikel A. Stewart, 71, of Ste Genevieve, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at home in Ste. Genevieve.
He was born May 5, 1950 in Dexter.
He was married to Sandy (Roemer) Stewart on August 18, 1973
Survived By: Wife, Sandy (Roemer) Stewart of Sainte Genevieve; two sons, Matthew (Kim) Stewart of Rockwall, Texas, Derrick (Kassi) Stewart of Bloomsdale; daughter, Mindy (Andy) Hampton of Napoleon; sister, Nancy Shipman of Farmington; grandchildren, Oliva, Eva Kay, Lincoln, Jonathan, Anniston, Dylan, Sloan, Georgia & Coleman; several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death By: Father, Coleman Stewart; Mother, Eva Stewart; Three Sisters, Bonnie Stewart, Lydia Denton, Nina Slinkard

He was a past member of Ste. Genevieve Lions Club, Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club & St. Joseph Parish. Mike spent 39 years in education. 10 years at St. Vincent as a high school football coach, teacher and principal. 7 years as a high school administrator at Ste. Gen R-II. 22 years as School Superintendent at Ste. Gen. R-II. Mike taught ADHOC classes at SEMO. He was Southeast Superintendent Association President, MSHSAA appeals committee for 5 years and board of directors for 8 years. He served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president with MASA. Mike was the executive committee representative for Missouri with AASA. He received the Pierce award for SEMO Superintendent Association 3 times. Mike received the Presidential Award and Lifetime Achievement Award with the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce and MASA Outstanding Emeritus Award. He was the treasurer of Brickey’s Hunting Club for over 20 years. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, discussing politics, story telling and most important he loved spending time with his family.
Visitation will be at Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 4:00 pm till 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 9:00 am till 10:30 am
Service will be at St. Joseph Church on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 11a.m. The Clergy will be Rev. Henry Purcell Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Zell.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Ste. Genevieve R-II School District Foundation
