May Jesus’ love move us to repentance

Posted

On Palm Sunday, the crowds welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem.
Days later the same voices shouted different sentiments. “Give us Barabbas” and “Crucify him” from the same mouths that shouted “Hosanna.”
Yet Jesus persisted in His mission. The fickle hearts of men did not dissuade Him from continuing to the cross and emerging from the tomb. So great was Jesus’ love for the Father; so much love as well for the image bearers, that He came, in spite of their divided hearts.

James tells us that, “From the same mouth comes blessing and cursing; My brothers, these things ought not to be so.”
Jesus deserves better than mouths that praise Him on Sunday only to speak opposite words on other days. We perhaps are guilty of the same thing when we sing with exuberance on Sunday and sin with no less vigor on Tuesday. Jesus deserves better than this from us.
His persistent love led Him to the cross for our sake. How can we give Him anything other than consistency? Resurrection Day is just past. May the love of Jesus move us to repentance and obedience.
