Lyerla returns to Republic-Monitor as publisher

Former Republic Monitor Managing Editor Crystal Lyerla will become the newspaper’s next publisher, bringing a wealth of industry experiencing to the job. Her first day as publisher was Monday, Dec. 27.
Lyerla began her career at The Herald Tribune in Chester, Ill., where she started in the circulation department.
She moved up the ranks, eventually becoming editor of the publication.
From there Lyerla accepted a position as a reporter for the Republic Monitor and after several years was named managing editor.
She later went on to accept a position as a publisher for two newspapers held by Wright Publishing Group in and near Mountain Grove, Missouri.
After a brief hiatus from the industry Lyerla was recruited for the publisher position here at the Republic Monitor and accepted.

“I am both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to do the work I love, in the town I love and call home,” Lyerla said. “I have been fortunate to work for several different newspapers over the years and plan to use my knowledge and experience to best serve the needs of Perry County.”
Lyerla stated her mission will be to publish a locally focused, accurate newspaper.
“The Republic Monitor has a strong reader base and a dedicated staff,” she said. “We will utilize both of those assets to develop and grow our print and digital products.”
Lyerla has been married to her husband, Matt, for 17 years. They have three children and have lived in Perryville for past 16 years. The couple enjoys spending time with their family, watching football, traveling, buying old things, and trying new things.
Lyerla emphasized that she has an open-door policy and is looking forward to the role she will play within the community.
