Lowell ‘Joe’ Long

Lowell M. “Joe” Long, Perryville High Class of 1966, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, after a long struggle with Type 2 Diabetes and its complications.
Joe also graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR, in 1970 with a degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting. His first career job was at a radio station in Paragould, AR, broadcasting sports play by play and selling advertising for the radio station for a few years. However, Joe had a great sales career for over 30 years with Colgate Palmolive.
Joe leaves behind his oldest son, Joey Long, and his daughters, Madeline and Mallory Long; another son, Josh Long; his stepdaughter Alex Stephens McDuffie and her son Deacon. Joe is also survived by a brother, Dr. Curtis W Long, and a sister, Carol Long Sturdevant, and nephews and nieces Curtis W Long, Jr; Kent A Long; William A Long; Christine G Long; Kimberly Long; Andrew W Gray; and Guy “Clark” Sturdevant. Also great nephew Cayman Long and great nieces Moorea Long; and Gemma Long.
Additionally, he leaves many world-class friends especially the Montemeyer Family that became extended family to Joe. He loved them and they loved him and cared for him in some of his most difficult times.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Vanita, in 2000; his brother, Van “Alen” Long, in 2016; and his sister, Mary Anthony “Toni” Long Gray, in 2013.

Visitation and service will be held from 3-5 p.m. May 19 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, located at 1900 W. Washington Ave., Jonesboro, AR. Funeral service will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Family and friends are invited a post-service dinner at a location to be determined.
Burial will be conducted at 11a.m., May 20, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at 1101 Missouri Ave. in Crystal City, MO.
The family requests no flowers, and instead request donations to the Kappa Alpha fraternity at Arkansas State University.
