For lovers of art, Perryville will be the place to go in a few months.
Five sculpture exhibits will be unveiled the Friday of Mayfest as part of a sculpture trail.
Three will be installed at Miget Park (French Lane), between the splash pad and St. Joseph Street. Additional sculptures will be placed at the city parking lot at the intersection of Main and St. Joseph Streets as well as the parking lot across from the Perryville post office (Spring and Ste. Maries).
“We wanted to bring more art to our community,” said Trish Erzfeld director of Perry County Heritage Tourism
The pieces are to be installed by May 7. Erzfeld said there is likely to be an artists’ reception that day. The plan is to create a brochure about the different sculptures which will be unveiled, Erzfeld said.

A total of 16 projects from individuals in six states were submitted as part of the inaugural exhibition, which will run from May 2021 through the following Mayfest.
Artists from Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas and Georgia were given the opportunity to submit up to four pieces.
The projects could already be completed or something that was planned, according to Erzfeld.
Three of the five pieces have not been made yet, Erzfeld said.
Chris Wubenna, professor of sculpture with the Department of Arts/Design at Southeast Missouri State University is providing guidance to the city and tourism group.
“We were happy to see that people all over the nation wanted to display their art here,” Erzfeld said.
